| Staying at the habitation of the polar bear

The first tourist expedition to the North Pole was held in April 2002. 152 travelers, including 10 children (!), from various countries took part in the previous tour in 2003. The next one is to be in April, 2004.

The tour is for 5 days. Tourists are provided with special polar clothes and abode in air-modules equipped with all needments. Hot meal is served three times a day due to schedule. Famous Russian vodka - without limitation.

The program includes a procedure of consecration in polar-visitors, dog sledge expedition, motor snow-sledge racing, balloon flight over the ice surface, polar attractions and entertainments. An experienced physician accompanies a group.

There are special packages for diving lovers and sports fans. Those who want perpetuate their names can plant memorial signs, national flags or company's brand on the pole. For the first time, in the framework of the Arctic animal kingdom study program, "shooting" a polar bear using somniferous pills is allowed for.

According to the Russian Federation Government's decision year-round expeditions of explorers on polar drift-ice stations are to be resumed beginning from 2003 to conduct scientific researches on the North Pole.

The work on organizing the expeditions has been allotted to the "Association of Polarmen of Russian Federation" and "Pole - the center of promotion, development and expertise of Arctic and Antarctic". | The Association of Polarmen of Russian Federation

The association is a social organization that aims at participation in working out the North development programs, aiding in setting up drifting research stations and Arctic and Antarctic expeditions, as well as at providing technical and organizational support for ecological tourism and other activities.

President of the Association is Arthur Chilingarov, In 1969 - 1971 he managed the "North Pole" drifting stations, headed a number of research expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. In 1986 - 1991 he was a deputy head of the USSR State Committee for Hydrometeorology and Environment Monitoring. He is a member-correspondent of the Russian Academy of Science, a member of the Britain Royal Geographical Society and the International Research Club. Presently, he is a deputy chairman of the State Duma of Russia.
